The new craze among gadget obsessed mobile fans is the Palm Pre. If you take a look at the specs or any of the videos on the web, the Palm Pre might just be the first legitamate iPhone killer. Armed with an amazing 320×480 touchscreen the Pre also features a slideout keyboard. While it might limit the number of cases for the Palm Pre due to the sliding mechanism, a QWERTY keyboard is invaluable to productivity users.

There is still not release date for the Palm Pre. The company has said it will release sometime during the first half of 2009. The window is starting to close and one has to wonder if Palm will meet their self-imposed deadline. At recent trade shows, the company has been hesitant to let people even touch the Pre. This doesn’t bode well for Pre accessory manufacturers, who will need a working unit to develop third party accessories. Palm has also announced their own line of Pre accessories, the first being the Touchstone. The Touchstone is a unique charger that allows users to charge the Palm Pre without even plugging it in. Simply place the Palm Pre on the charger and it begins charging. The Palm Pre should be in for a fight this summer, as many expect Apple to release it’s next generation iPhone.
